Why the Cubs Are Like Coco Puffs

The Chicago Cubs are a lot like a frosty bowl of Coco Puffs. They are magically delicious. Forget the fact that thats the slogan for a different brand of cereal altogether and lets focus on the fact that Ryan Theriot has a fantastically appropriate last name for a ballplayer. "The Riot" as hes been affectionately dubbed by both Chicagoans and sportscasters alike is a scrappy young hitter with a will to win and a big heart full of gold, much like your common street hooker that you might find at a place such as 35th and Wentworth on Chicagos other side of town.

Another key factor to the success of the 2007 Cubs will be their ability of broadcasters Len Kasper and Bob Brenly to constantly engage in meaningless, irrelevant, and sometimes altogether inappropriate banter while on the air. The other week while the Cubs were in Milwaukee the dynamic duo began using both Cubs and Brewers players last names in their dialogue in word forms which would make sense in say a Gene Shalit review of Happy Gilmore. "People are going to think weve gone three SHEETS to the wind," says Len. "It could be WUERTZ," Bob quips back immediately. I know Im not the only one that misses Chip and Stoney.

Len and Bob are great guys though. It doesn't matter who the announcers are, as Steve Goodman says in his song, the Cubs are gonna win today. By October, all of Chicago will be on the Cubs bandwagon.
