Where Can I Find Some Big Game? What About Wyoming?

Are you looking for a great place to hunt whitetail elk, deer, moose, buffalo, bighorn sheep, and antelope? Wyoming offers hunters a great place to hunt all of these animals and more. There are opportunities to hunt in Northwest Wyoming on horseback so you have a better chance of finding a great selection of animals to hunt. There are also very reputable outfitters who feature pack in camps that are located throughout this beautiful country.

There are many different locations in Wyoming for both camping and hunting. There are small campgrounds located on the North Platte River as well a well managed campsites that are located at the base of the Wind River Mountains. The Alcova Reservoir features six campgrounds with great fishing opportunities that spread across 2,500 acres. The best camping area is the Bighorn National Forest as it covers more than 1,100 acres in the North Central region of Wyoming.

The hunting you will find in Wyoming offers some of the best bull to cow ratios. Hunters are allowed to hunt for elk with a rifle during bugling season as well. You will find herds of elk that roam here so you won't have to worry about following migration patterns. The biggest population of big game in throughout Wyoming are mule deer. Some of the mule bucks get up to 300 pounds in size. It can be very challenging to hunt such a large mule buck as they are very smart animals with developed senses. Hunting them is a very rewarding experience.

Wyoming is well known for the great antelope hunting available. It is not unrealistic to see hundreds of antelope while out on a hunting excursion. Some of the bucks reach over 15 inches and weigh between 100 and 140 pounds. Hunting them is quite a challenge because they can smell a predator from more than a mile away depending on the direction of the wind. They can also run at a speed of 65 miles per hour.

If you are interested in hunting big horn sheep, there is no place that compares with Wyoming. The largest herd of big horn sheep in the world can be found near Dubois Wyoming as they migrate there in the winter. However, hunting big horn sheep is not for someone who is out of shape. The terrain is difficult as it consists of steep rocks and the area is very cold. This is one of the most challenging hunts you will ever experience.
